AYY ANNOUNCES

1. Welcome to celebrate the JTM 5 rental facilities’ opening with an afterwork on Wednesday 5 Jun

Gorsu and the Village Living Room, both part of the rental facilities at JMT 5, have recently finished their renovations. The Campus Section wishes everyone welcome to celebrate the facilities’ opening by way of an afterwork on Wednesday 5 Jun from 5 pm. The evening’s programme will feature a barbeque, sauna and communal hanging out, and Campus Section members will also happily answer any questions regarding the facilities. The event is free of charge and open to all. More info on the event will follow, so stay tuned!

2. Reservation calendar for AYY’s rental facilities now open until 5 Jan 2020

Bookings for AYY’s rental facilities can now be made until 5 Jan 2020. Bookings are made via AYY’s TILA system (tila.ayy.fi) by using your personal Aalto user details. If you do not have Aalto user details and want to reserve a facility for yourself, you can send us a reservation request using this form. Received reservation request forms will be confirmed with a separate email message.

A coded lock is in use at the Atlantinkatu and Heinävaara rental facilities for which the booker will receive a single-use key code from the TILA system. The keys to other facilities must be picked up from AYY’s office in Otaniemi on the day of the reservation during our opening hours. The keys for weekend reservations are always picked up on Friday. Our office is normally open at 12 noon–4 pm on weekdays.  However, remember to always check the possible exceptions to the opening hours on our contact information website!

Learn more about the facilities and the booking instructions: Rentable facilities

3. Resident announcement: Laundry rooms are booked in Domo from 1 Jun 2019 onwards

There is a laundry room in most AYY properties that the residents can use. From the beginning of June 2019, the laundry rooms are booked in the Domo service: https://domo.ayy.fi/en.

Why is the booking service transferred to Domo? Domo is easier to maintain and offers AYY a better chance than before to communicate to residents about possible exceptions to the use of laundry room equipment. For example, we can flag it in Domo’s reservation calendar when a piece of equipment is being serviced and cannot be booked. Domo will also notify the booker in case their reservation needs to be cancelled due to a breakdown. The change also enables us to offer the booking service in three languages, as Domo can be viewed in either Finnish, Swedish or English.

Read more about making a reservation in Domo: https://ayy.fi/en/blog/2019/05/20/laundry-room-reservations-will-be-made-on-domo-starting-1st-june-2019/.

The Student Union is looking for a Services Assistant who is service-minded and enjoys working with customers to join its capable and merry ranks. As Services Assistant, you are an important part of the Services team that strives to implement the vision of our Student Union: AYY – The best student’s life in the world.  The duties of the Services Assistant include e.g. customer service, tasks related to invoicing and cashier services, and the control and development of rentable facility-related processes. ARTS AND CULTURE

5. Otaniemi Night of Arts on 21 Sept: Looking for a Graphic Designer and subevent organisers

Otaniemi Night of Arts, the interartistic, open-to-all, free-of-charge campus festival, is organised on 21 Sept this year! What artistic fun could your association bring to the event?

Registration as a subevent organiser will remain open until the beginning of August. You can also sign up right now to take part in organising the biggest and most impressive interartistic event in Otaniemi at https://ayy.fi/en/students/student-culture/annual-events/otaniemenyo/.

We are also looking for a Graphic Designer to create the visual look of this year’s event. A fee will be paid for the work. Read more and apply: https://ayy.fi/en/blog/2019/05/21/searching-for-a-graphic-designer-to-create-the-visual-outlook-of-otaniemi-night-of-arts-festival/.

6. Open call for artworks and research projects: ClimATE

Deadline: 5.00 pm on Monday 17 June 2019

This is an open call to the Aalto Community’s artists, students and researchers to submit proposals for inclusion in an exhibition at Aalto University in autumn 2019.

We are curious about how food might help us understand the impacts of climate change. We are interested in art and science research projects which consider how what we eat has a hold on the PlAnET, and influences EArTh systems and climATE change.

The call is organised by the SCTA (Sharing & Co-Creating Transdisciplinary Artworks) initiative composed of the following members: Bassam El Baroni, Outi Turpeinen, Edel O’Reilly and Bilge Hasdemir.

For more information and the application guidelines, please see: https://www.aalto.fi/en/research-art/open-call-for-artists-and-researchers-climate-exhibition-2019.

7. Kulttuurikontti brings art and culture to different parts of Espoo

Kulttuurikontti is a mobile cultural space built inside a sea container whose activities are open to all and free of charge. This year’s container features, for example, design and nice things to do for all ages. The workshops are organised by the design collective Maketti and artist Greta Muuri.

City Events Espoo is in charge of the production.

Kulttuurikontti is open in June–August on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 am–3 pm in Olari’s Asukaspuisto (18–29 Jun), in Otaniemi outside shopping centre A Bloc (9–20 Jul) and in Espoo Centre outside shopping centre Espoontori (30 Jul–10 Aug).
